Meet the Teachers

Hi Everyone!

We are looking forward to another great year and getting to know all the new 1st-graders and their families. I hope this page helps you to get to know us a little a better!

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. In 2000, I received my Master degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Educational Technology from Southern Methodist University. I have been teaching for thirty-eight years. Wow! It really doesn't seem that long. This will be my ninth year teaching first-grade at St. Mark's School of Texas.

CLASS MISSION & TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

I strive to make my classroom a place where all boys will have the opportunity to show their individual strengths and build upon their unique differences. I believe that learning should be fun, exciting, and challenging. Through the use of hands-on activities, projects, technology, and cooperative learning I will do my part to encourage and motivate each boy to achieve at their highest level and prepare them for opportunities in an ever-changing world. I know that education is a partnership between home and school. Please make sure that if you have any questions or concerns, that you bring them to my attention as soon as possible. I will take care of them immediately.

FAMILY:

My husband, Ray, and I live in Allen with our Maltese boy, Bruiser. We have two grown daughters, Erin and Morgan. Erin is a pediatric nurse partitioner in Dallas. She is married to Cable Smith.  Morgan, our youngest daughter just moved back to McKinney. Yea!  She works with computers. My sweet grandson, Henry, calls me Lala. He is about to be promoted to Big Brother very soon. His twin sisters are due in November, and I super excited, too!

Food: Mexican food is definitely my favorite, but I am learning to
like sushi too.
Store: I find myself at Target a lot!
Restaurant: Cantina Laredo, Blue Fish, & I admit I love skinny lattes
from Starbucks!

I had a great time camping and hiking in Wyoming this past summer.

Welcome to our First Grade Blog! We look forward to an exciting year at St. Mark's! Please feel free to explore the blog and find out all that is happening in first grade!

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education.  I have been teaching for twenty-four years, and this will be my ninth year teaching at St. Mark's School of Texas. I love my job and am so excited to teach first grade!
My father was in the Air Force, so we moved around a lot, but I consider Virginia home. Although, I've lived in Texas since 1993, and I love it as well!

CLASS MISSION & TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

I try very hard to make my classroom a place where boys feel comfortable taking risks when learning. We encourage each other and push each other in a positive way to be our very best. I believe that we must treat each other with kindness and respect in order for everyone to enjoy the class and achieve success. I believe that boys learn best through movement, hands-on activities, and purposeful work.

FAMILY:

My husband, Christopher, and I live in Dallas with our two sons, Kent (Class of 2016) and Blake (Class of 2021). My husband graduated from St. Mark's as well in 1987. We bleed blue and gold, and St. Mark's is a very important part of our lives. We also have a sweet black lab named Gunner. We love to travel together and visit family. Some of our most special times are spent with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents! We love to laugh and have fun together. I have three older brothers, and there are 13 grandchildren on my side of the family, and 11 are boys. There are nine grandsons on my husband's side of the family. So, I am surrounded by boys most days...even sweet Gunner is a boy! They make life very exciting!

SOME OF MY FAVORITES THINGS:

Colors: pink (and blue and gold, of course...)
Book: Having two growing sons, I find that many of my current books are often books about raising good boys. :-)  I also love a good mystery!
Food: I love all types of food, but I really love Mexican food, seafood, and CHOCOLATE!
Restaurants: Lawry's, Mi Cocina, and Beck's Prime, and Liberty Burger
Place to Visit: I would love to go to Boston again...but now that my sons are older, we want to take them on a European cruise. We go to Florida and to the Caribbean often though...and I love them both! Probably my favorite place to go is to my parents' farm in Virginia. It belonged to my grandparents for many years, and it is the most comfortable and beautiful place to me...filled with many wonderful memories!
Holiday: Christmas
Season: Fall and Spring...they are both so beautiful!
Animal: Dogs
